Where to Stay

Kyrenia (Girne) is the main resort town, set on the Northern coast with a dramatic mountain backdrop. Its picturesque harbour, dominated to one side by the imposing castle, is the perfect spot to while away a balmy evening, dining on freshly-caught fish, sipping a brandy sour or simply watching the locals as they promenade. You can choose to stay in the resort centre or in one of the charming Mediterranean villages dotted along the glittering coastline, where you can enjoy the crystal-clear waters and sandy beaches.
Alternatively, choose to holiday in a traditional North Cyprus village in the foothills of the Five Finger mountains. In the midst of unspoilt countryside, nature-lovers and ramblers can explore their pristine surroundings, discovering rare orchids and other indigenous wildlife. Perhaps the best known of the mountain villages is Bellapais, with its timeless ruined abbey, made famous by its one-time resident, Lawrence Durrell.

Famagusta (Gazimagusa), meanwhile, is best known for its golden sandy beaches, perfect for family holidays. It is also a treasure-trove of history with sites including the well-preserved city walls, the fascinating icon museum of St. Barnabas and the ruins of the ancient Greco-Roman city of Salamis.
